[VIDEO] Life On Mars by fragomatic

2007-01-11

fragomatik graciously let me know he chose "NeoHippie [punk rockmix]" to accompany his computer-animated video, "Life On Mars".

It's a journey that starts in an unlikely way with a butterfly, and scopes outwards. Thoughts of biospheres and colonization come to mind in a compact ~2 minutes. Even has a hi-tek train. I've enjoyed CG vids since the days of Beyond the Mind's Eye, and it's fun to see my music used in such a way. Maybe the Martians are hippie-punk rockers?

Also, I like the throbbing zoom effects that suddenly slam in-out, as well as the mosaic'ed pixelation and various transitionals. Some of the coordination seems a bit off with the music — you know I pay close attention to such syncing from personal experience. I like the shaky camera effects as well — cams level with the horizon are soooo boring to me, which is why my family never liked me to take holiday pictures! *tilts diagonally muhaha*

And yes:

  1. The Beatles references via Mellotron are deliberate.
  2. The swirly synth noise is a patch called "Circles" off the Alesis QS8.
  3. All the drums are electronic, and felt a little too acoustic for me at points; not in tone, but in articulation.
  4. Watch out for the Mozart reference…
  5. and the stalwart harpsicords.
  6. The story behind the song is, it's about a punk guy (now we call them sk8r bois) + a hippie girl who get married, and their kid, while very aggro, is also a very harmonious and flower-power gal. She's more of an AND person than an OR person.

Trivia dat blow ur mind.

THINK OF SOMEONE WHO HAS HAPPINESS MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS!

Thanks for linking to my video at youTube. I can relate to the story behind Neohippie because of my own experience growing up in the 70s & 80s. And yeah I DID notice the Mozart homage there – very nice. About the hyperacusis – that's a damn shame dude, but obviously you're a positive sorta person and that's definitely the way to be.
