thanks for showing those miniture prims and the Harbingers sandbox, now i've got a serious craving to build a tiny flag. :)

  2. Brokken Prevost Says:

Thanks Torley! You just ruined my SL business.

(Just kidding! I hope my flags are inexpensive and well-made enough that people will still buy them rather than going to the trouble of making them … or at least a few people will.)

Keep on showing us how to do new things. I really do appreciate it! I've been reading your stuff for ages, and *someday* I hope to meet you in SL.

Consider yourself kissed for "Kiss a Linden Day".

  3. Signore Iredell Says:

    NICE work, Torley.

But what about publishing the videos on a different platform so the video can be downloaded (in better resolution also, maybe)?

That would really be appreciated ;)

    Bye
    Signore Iredell

  4. Torley Says:

Heiko, got your mini-flag… thanx a lot! I really like how you put the two together.

Brok, thank you so much! It is true for many people that whether "Do-It-Yourselfing" applies is dependent on time. I'd totally want to get into the prefab house business if I had more time, but I don't, so I buy them and am happy there are talented creators (not enough) who make such things. Keep flyin' the flags, and in case you can make it, my inworld office hours tomorrow are @ 6 AM and 2 PM PST at my place in Linden Village (it's in my profile).

Signore, good point, I have higher-quality originals, of course. Where would you recommend to publish? I went with YouTube because, while I don't like the smushed-down resolution and degraded quality either (hence why I resorted to zooming), it's near-ubiquitous and Flash video is cross-platform accessible. I've tried some other sites in the past but they were slow, flakey, etc.

  5. Signore Iredell Says:

    Sorry Torley,
I forgot to write that I was thinking to video.google.com - it shows videos using the Flash format, but it also let you download the video (in better resolution) in .avi and .mp4 format.

I published there my short Tweaking rendering parameters in Second Life video and I'm quite happy about it.

  6. Flugel Flasheart Says:

    Mucho gracias Torley!

I remember early in my SL life I tried to follow instructions on tiny prim creation on the forums and struggled to follow them. This is ideal.

    More video tutorials please!!! :-)

  7. Torley Says:

Signore, I didn't know Google Video also lets you download, altho I wasn't previously happy with the necessity to download the Google Video Player.

I currently encode my stuff in Windows Media Video so I don't know offhand about the quality of Google Video's conversions, but since Google bought YouTube, maybe this is a moot point in the future.

I downloaded your rendering tweak video — trippy! — but the MP4 only has a resolution of 320×216. The only other option I saw requires Google Video Player to be downloaded. Is there something I'm missing?

My originally-rendered files are 640×480, which is a fair size.

(Context: I also used blip.tv in the past, which allows full-resolution downloads, but I had numerous network difficulties and stalled buffering problems.)

Flugel, so happy to hear this and thanx for sharing, it helps me improve! I plan to do more Video Tutorials, time willing. :D

    Torley:

Thank you so much for the tiny prim video… This is one of those topics I'd never been able to wrap my head around from just reading text tutorials — all the more proof that these video tutorials are the way to go to complement the SL Knowledge Base!

    You're awesome!
    Aenea

  9. Torley Says:

Aenea, you're most graciously welcome! You sharing this with me really matters, because then I can show it to fellow Lindens that it's making a real positive difference! Thankoo! =^_^=

@Jondolarr: Aloha! So happy you like my vidtuts. I presume you are from/in Hawaii? I've been there a few times to visit family and have fun (you gotta have fun in Hawaii). That's most kind of you but I hope this "President" is a nonpolitical position, I'm a better evangelist than that. ;) Hee hee. I shall do more video tutorials in the near future, and thanx for the invite… got a SLURL to your place in Ripple?
