I never thought I'd see the day where the elegance of Vimeo succumbed to something similar that hit YouTube months ago, as I blogged earlier: video uploads which sound fine before the encoding process are coming out the other end with horrible distortion. It makes me sound like a totalitarian dictator, and frankly, that's not what I stand for. Alas, it may delay the delivery of my newest Second Life video tutorials to the TNT blog if it's not fixed soon.
Unlike YouTube, Vimeo staff have been very active in the forums, which I'm thankful for. I hope they can remedy it swiftly, and if you've wondered what's up with this, now you know.
This problem has been reported in threads like:
- Audio not fading in/out properly
- No Thumbnail (another recent problem I've experienced)
- Distorted and heavily compressed audio

Thanks for posting this Torley. I thought it was ME! The post processing on both sites has been a pain and HD on YouTube has been surpassing Vimeo – which isn't saying much. Like you, I got the response from Vimeo that it was my imagination.
It takes a day or more for YouTube to process an almost not stinky HD copy. I tried setting the video to "private" until it's ready – but it seems that they never get around to encoding them if I do.
I prefer using blip as the streaming channel – but have you noticed how many residents can't see blip streams in world? I don't have enough data yet – but it seems that most people can't see YT HD inworld either . Been wondering if I should set up two accounts on each site – one for tiny copies and one for HD. Any insights?
Thanks for all you do – and all the time you give out of your life to do it for us.
Methinks our freebie streaming days are coming to a close. Maybe the world really doesn't want original content
Pyewacket, I've posted a followup thread here because Vimeo staff have been actively helping with other issues but not this one in the last couple of days:

We have numerous solid reproductions! I haven't checked lately but Blip.tv used to have .m4v links to play in Second Life if you check page source. I ran into too many UI problems with them, alas.
YouTube recently disabled a popular way to download MP4 (high-quality) versions from them, which was also the format used to play in SL. Haven't tried it most recently. I don't know what workarounds exist presently.
While not as convenient, the most reliable way is likely to have some robust webspace and upload a QuickTime-compatible movie, then link to that on your parcel media.
You're so welcome!
Yup. That's nasty clipping going on – but I see they're "on it"
Thanks for the YT info – and right – it's no longer playing in world – and when I switched the url over to blip – it crashed my butt right out of SL!
Guess my streaming into SL days are over. LOL! Those "NO ARTISTIC TYPES WANTED" signs are getting thick fast. Used to be No Pay – No play. Now it's No pay AND no play.
MBA's give me a headache.
The fixed the YouTube stream
Andrew Pile helped fix most of the Vimeo audio distortion but there's still an issue I've reported: http://vimeo.com/forums/topic:11980
