Vonage rings through — excellent customer service

Posted on: June 19, 2008

A couple days ago, I reported having a problem with my V-Tech IP8100 broadband phone which wasn’t manufactured by Vonage, but nonetheless supported by them. And support they did!

Earlier this Thursday afternoon, I received a DHL package (and thanks to them too for delivering through!) containing a replacement AC adaptor. I plugged it in, and the phone is working again.

The Vonage reps told me the adaptor would arrive at latest by Friday, but it’s here on time, and I’m following up as I promised. I took their customer satisfaction survey too, and pointed them to this blog — the least I could do for such a pleasant experience after a frustrating part of the afternoon.

All too often, people speak up when they initially have a problem, but don’t talk about the followup. I’ve made sure the rest of this story gets told.

P.S. On an unobvious connection, my attention’s been called to various video tutorials  — like this and that — teaching how to boost the mic volume on Realtek sound cards. It’s the same thing covered by one of the most popular posts on my blog. There’s something to be said about helping people so they can help others, and it makes me feel awesome, every time.

    Hi Torley,

Thanks for all your help and your cheerful attitude. I wonder if you have ever looked into Magic Jack (see: http://www.magicjack.com/3/index.asp), as an alternative to Vonage?

Also, if I may ask something off topic, do you have a video that explains why adding a script to a prim changes the tint of its texture? I'm a newbie and this is driving me crazy, changing the nice white background that I want to that ugly salmon color I see everywhere in SL.

Please help, I've searched for information on this for hours. Is there a way around this problem?

    Thanks,
    Seitek Blanco

I like using vonage also. I haven't had any problems with them yet. But i also started using the Magicjack and I like also. The price is what sold me.
I'm using both of them…in a couple months i'll decide which one i like better.

I hadn't even heard of the Magicjack until you guys mentioned it! I may opt for that trial. Thanks Saitek and Eathan.

    Also — a script shouldn't tint a texture unless it's programmed to, e.g., http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetColor

I'd suggest looking at the script and removing the problematic code!

    Thanks Torley.

The bad news is that the problem is in every object with a script, no matter who's the owner.

The good news is that I found the solution to the problem through one of your videos (after days of searching!)

The trouble was that my client had "Highlighting" enabled for some reason.

Thanks again for all you do for us newbies in SL.

Vonage customer service is filled with LIARS who will tell you anything to "sign the deal" or get you off the phone. It's when the keep billing you later and there's no way to turn that off until you've paid them in collections that you really know how screwed you are.

    AVOID VONAGE!!!

@John: Sounds like you've had sucktastic experiences, but apart from me wishing the price could be lower (still), I've had a good time with Vonage. I've haven't had sales pressure.
