Well that was predictable

You know those little badges on people's sites where it says they're RSS or XML or insert-fave-acronym-here-compliant? I had to do one of my own, courtesy of Adam Kalsey's Button Maker. Great fun.

(Does it pass with flying colors?)

There were a lot of things I was going to blog about, but then I threw up my hands and declared, "I'm not blogging about this." So I didn't, and didn't post here for several days—which was convenient anyhoo, as I was busy elsewhere.

Working on an old CRT is starting to suck. This SyncMaster 955DF was never all that good for crisp text, but it's been straining my eyes lately. Like having recently upgraded to a new computer, I think I'm going to bite it and get a nice flat panel beauty. Maybe a pair. The strain on my eyes just isn't worth it.

I had a scare the other day, my postcards to Snapzilla started appearing broken. To say this worried me was an understatement. I noticed it a few images afterwards, Ano helped look into it, and geez—it turned out to be the DMZ setting on my router. I disabled it and…

went to fly kites. Green Fate sent me a kite he's making the other day, but I was boondoggled in work and finally some space to just fly it. I went down south to the newish island chain, and soon, Green TPed in too because the kite wasn't following me correctly when I ran around. He started working on the code before my eyes. My vision is that of a whole troupe of avatars, cavorting down a hillside, kites unfurled. But today, two of us had to do. Green is known in SL for fun things!

I didn't add that pink border in post-production, BTW: it's my HUD! I made a hollowed-out cube and attached it. Recently, HUDs became visible in snapshots. I reckon it was a side-effect of improving how they're displayed. There was some uproar over this, understandably so, because of how they clutter up the screen. At the same time, new benefits have been discovered, because they can make for some really tastey graphical ornamentation. I think they'll eventually be optional, and I think that's the best possible way.

An extra border just adds so much! I was inspired to do this by Davo Greenstein and JellyBean Madison.

I like helping get great things on a roll. Back in Preview 1.7, many months ago, Charles Fauna made a letterbox HUD. He never introduced it out of Preview tho, and I'm surprised noone else did it. Actually, I'm not surprised. This happens all the time, and it takes a special person to pinpoint the obvious and charm it like a snake out of a hole. I asked him to revive it and bring it in for real, and moments later, I was handing them out to Resis. It's not just two black bars: you keep chatting and you get automatic subtitles. Here's the man himself. FACT: I first met him at the long-gone Classic Games Park in Fuchsia. He doesn't remember it, but I do.

Dakind Pixel has been working up a froth of magic on his sims. He took me for an underwater ride to his undersea lair, and aptly donned an Atlantean avatar. Very creative, fun guy—that's prolly an understatement. Now, if only I could get a *blub* decoder. I can relate to him in that we're going fullforce with our ideas. We've already held back for long enough, and now's the time to roll! I'll be hoping to see great things from FuturePerfect, which he so named because of an allergic reaction to dystopias and "twisted" utopias. I can't agree more.

In other big news, which this hints at, I recently made not 50, but 60 new FREE textures—a socalled "Torley Texture Bundle 2". I've put them, and the first collection, into a new kiosk. I'll write more in a future entry, but preemptively, if you want the new textures for free, let me know. One of them is the very painterly background behind the sketchy watermelon.

And we might as well have another teaser!

I love the spontaneity here: I was setting up the kiosk, and Jesrad Seraph, chaotic mastermind—this I relate to too!—comes by. She dances and bows gracefully and clicks to get my textures, and immediately starts applying them to a pterosaur, which she ends up renaming a Torleysaur. She makes all sorts of animals. In just a few minutes, we were up and sauring!

I have a difficult time doubting magic when it's in front of me every day.
