What does my music sound like?
Posted on: June 19, 1998I asked myself this question today, and am going to answer it as such:
my music is a study in extreme moderation. It's progressive while being regressive — I embrace contradictions. Unexplainable riddles aside, I often like putting memorable melodies, catchy tunes so to speak, in my tracks. But there are times where I want to go atonal and not have much of a melody at all. Maximal at times, minimal at others, I am a sonic explorer and enjoy diversity. That can mean mixing the blatantly clich? with something alien and bringing both together. Perhaps above all, I like to have fun. Regardless, you'll recognize my style, aka "The Torley Touch (TM).
I call it techno music simply because it is TECHNOlogically-based. Yes, I will often sample organic sources or use a piano, so there you go, more contradictions. I do not really relate to most genre and style classifications; they divide what is united all too often. I am not out to judge or to slam or disrespect because the world has enough pain and suffering as it stands — again, I like to have fun.
I'm not good with words . . .
I make music:
-to make you happy
-to find out more about myself and the world around me
-etc.
I like being myself, and putting in little quirks in my music, whether it is something weird with the timing that comes naturally to me, or a deliberate creamy layer of special fx. If you have already listened, then you have likely already noticed this. If you have not listened, what's keeping you?
I come from a classical background, and yes, I once was a chinstroking snob until I beat the self-induced brainwashing out of my system. I assure you I'm nice now (most of the time, j/k).
I am not a technical savant, but I know what I like and what makes human beings feel good.
I am also autistic, with what is currently known as Asperger's Syndrome (terms subject to change in the future as our knowledge of the brain expands), which accounts for a large chunk of why I am me. I *know*?I perceive the world?in my own different way.?(YES, THIS?INCLUDES MY OBSESSIONS!)?If you are wondering "Can you do the Rainman thing?", if it is targeted at music, then maybe
But seriously, I recognize neurodiversity and that we as humans, each and every one of us, are more unique and special than the world at large will sometimes give us credit for. Be you. Be fun.
Life is hard. I'm here to make you happier through techno music.
AS always,
Thank you graciously.
