"Curled hair, curled likings" – that is what the father of Dutch author and artist Jan Wolkers used to say to him. Wolkers comes from a very strictly conservative, Dutch Reformed background.
I had no idea that such ideas also exist in vastly different cultures.
I should add that after saying this, Wolkers senoir got out his clippers of course.
