WindLight: Binary Beauty

Posted on: July 26, 2007

A tremendous upside to debugging WindLight is… gosh, it's so darned pretty! That really counts when you've gotta do repetitive actions over and over again. You know how science is, gotta work from a good sample size and observe your results. Time and time again, I am sheerly amazed by the graphical guru-ness our developers hath come up with.

Whelp, I, in my flavored curiosity, had to put together a recording of a day cycle with some REALLY PRETTY SCULPTIE PRIMS (thanx Sculptypaint!) showcasing the new shiny and glow across a set of custom preset skies I made.

Hope u like:

I reckon in the future, when sky settings (or whatever they may be called, if less a mouthful) become share-able assets, then I'd very much like to do a freebie pack o' skies and give it out en masse, much like I do currently with my Torley Textures. The future… is sunny. Like one of those BIG EGG YOLKS hatched by Godzilla herself.

First Look: WindLight is coming again, not too long from now… stay tuned 'n' stuff!

    Hmmmm…

Does anyone else besides me notice a certain Earthbound-esque quality to this video? With pretty images being show between a steady focus of sculpties and music very reminiscent of the Sound Stone melody, I can't help but think back to the quirkiness of that SNES gem.

Think about it as you watch it again. ^^

I definitely see the resemblance to the Sound Stone track, and I definitely have the Sound Stone track stuck in my head after having thought about it all.

@Mathieu: Another few weeks I hope, I'm keeping people excited until then!

@Val: I've only played the Super NES Earthbound (Mother 2), but I definitely have been subtlely influenced by the bizarre and alien atmospherics of that game (including some really weird boss fight music).

@Day: I'll have to check out the Sound Stone track; I composed this particular piece — it's "a humble prayer (one of many)" from http://www.archive.org/downloadspopup.php?identifier=Torley_Wong_-_The_Final_Selection and don't remember which one Sound Stone is… is there a YouTube vid with the music? I found http://youtube.com/watch?v=vu7uiQ0SUW8 (beware, audio is very distorted)
