WindLight First Look viewer released!

Posted on: May 29, 2007

I hope you heard that Second Life First Look WindLight is out! Yes, that means the beauty you've seen in my previous blog posts is hopefully something you can enjoy for yourself.

Pardon the post's length; I wanted to be briefer, but you know how it is with a cornucopia of questions we love to answer! So, I put in pictures so your eyes don't get too sore… pix of PRETTY NEW SKIES hehe.

I have to give massive thanxies to the WindLight project team I'm on. Lovely, passionate people to work with. I'm product managing WindLight (in case you haven't guessed already), so this means I'm responsible for connecting bugs + new feature suggestions that come up on our Issue Tracker. With today's gathered feedback, I'll take a first go at it tomorrow, and continue regularly from there.

Feedback so far has been largely positive, with a number of well-meaning concerns we anticipated beforehand, such as "Where did the moon go?" and "Why can't I fly through clouds anymore?"… both and more of which shall be answered in further detail in times to come. I also know of some sucky crash bugs like VWR-896, watch for our progress on 'em soon.

Trivia: the First Look WindLight viewer's splash screen was photographed by me, on the beautiful realm of Intemptesta Nox, which means "dead of night". Gracious thankyous of course go to Baron Grayson and Sue Stonebender for such a classy and apt atmosphere to inspire my willful ways. So if you're looking for a nice place to splash your sunshine, do visit!

To reiterate, if you haven't tried WindLight yet, what's stopping you? Download it and let me know what you think + feel! Come, join us for the adventure!

Weh? How do I disable my personal sky, after having played with it, to make sure I'm seeing the 'region sky?'

  2. Gravecat Martov Says:

I approve of this product and/or service.

  3. Torley Says:

@Day Oh: The intended controls, when WindLight rolls into the main viewer and has server-side functionality too (it's currently only client-side), should be like an evolution of the current options. In other words, either World menu > Force Sun > Revert to Region Default or something similar.
