Won't let go this time - "Boy Loses Girl Song" (aphex twin remix)
Posted on: August 7, 2005Aaaand here's another track by special request. It's called "Boy Loses Girl Song", also made in '97 by moi, I think it took a quint of hours, this one. It begins with the?enduring familiar pizzicato riff from Aphex Twin's (Richard D. James) "Girl/Boy Song"?interpolated-but-not-sampled?lushly in the mix?and takes it in an antithetical direction. Oh my, is this poppy and jolly! I stuck the most generic and cliched of TR-909 kick drums under the base, and there's not even a conventional bassline to speak of! Just plucking… lots and lots of dirty plucking! Like clockwork?
If that doesn't grab ya, maybe the counterplucking will, or like, the piano line with the on-the-beat tambourine.?Because you know how much I love piano lines with on-the-beat tambourines! What else is there now, oh yeah, there is sort of a buzzy base (which was inspired by Underworld's "Jumbo" but I disgress), and lots of progression. In fact, at one part, there's a faux hip-hop section with little scratches. B-b-breakbeat! Nowhere near as advanced as whut I would develop a few years later but, scratchy indeed. And, in another one of my forecasts, check out the smooth sine melody that comes in at about 2:24. That would prove popular in a lot of progressive house down the line.
Would I change anything? Well, one thing: it ends on a sad note. I'd make that a happy note!
Hum the melodies, this is . . .
Techno heresy!
