Ye olde watermelons, mah ancestahs!
Posted on: March 11, 2007So ahhhh Vint Falken, who I laud for photographic excellence, made this piccie:
which took Victorley and composited her|me with this rural scene of my favorite food. There appear to be some red rock-y outcroppings in the background, but upon closer inspection, I noticed the melons blown open on the lower-right. This almost leads me to believe that this proto-Torley, with a flick of her hand, blew up those melons like the guy-at-desk's head went splodey in Scanners. Mental powers = strangerous.
What I also like about this picture is the vintage grunge, like the scratches and dust. Since stock Second Life pictures look very clean and often have jagged edges of an unwanted kind, to age them, it takes some getting dirty. And desaturating me gives a new perspective to what is often very loud and tonally pure.
Related, if you're into SL photomanips and doing snapshot post-processing, here's where I bring up Filter Forge again — it's such a veritable arsenal of effects. Have a look at their filter category for photo-editing tools! I'm looking for success stories from Residents who got the 90-day trial (it recently went out of beta), then created awesome, highly-used filters to earn a free copy. If that's you, let me know your name on the FF forums.
I'd also like to thank Vint for suggesting I use co.mments to track comments I've left across the web; some days in and I'm liking it more than CoComments. The layout is cleaner and it's easy to remove conversations from being tracked. It's not perfect, but that goes without saying so I said it anyway, but I find it a lot easier to use and register for — often a deciding factor.

Wow! Vint's done a really good job of this. Looks strange seeing you with your brightness turned down though, Torley

And further proof that the great English explorer and writer Sir Richard Burton (1821-90) was really not kidding when he said:
It was unknown as to exactly which sort of melon he was thinking of at the time this remark was made…

@Ana: I feel the same way. Ha-ha!
@Patchouli: Ah so this is the quote you mentioned when we met at my office. Hmmm… I'll have to dig the melon patches for the context on that one. Sounds very alluring.
@Phoenix: Yah, desats aren't exactly "natural" to me at first glance, but I'm all up for playing with all the colors of the rainbow, whether they're FREAKIN' DAYGLO-BRITE or more subtle.
