YomZ Soan Papdi
Posted on: November 9, 2006In the delectable delights dept., I have a new favorite, and no, it's not watermelon (what, you think I'm that predictable?
). It's an Indian dish (so to speak) called Soan Papdi.
Also called Patisa at times, I think — at least according to Google. There are numerous pages with recipes, but I kinda struggled to find more personal anecdotes about it, like this great blog review. Sometimes, it even gets mistaken for a WMD. Mine came in a plastic tray with waxy paper, and I was admittedly a bit hesitant to gorge on the texture.
But mmmm is it good!
Sometimes when I savor the cuisine of other cultures, in my head I think it's like alien food. While watching Star Trek, I used to marble marvel at all the blue drinks and other synthesized delicacies on the table which don't really exist — at least, in their original chemical composition.
But this Soan Papdi is real, and I think I'm going to pick up my tray now and have a few more bites.
(It makes me ponder, likely the Soan Papdi I got @ the supermarket isn't even really representative, or the best of its kind, and I have to go seek it out, live on the streets of India… or something.)
